چکیده
The inclusion of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) has become increasingly attractive to promote the self-healing ability cementitious materials, thereby reducing costs related manual repairs. To advocate use these additives within large-scale constructions, an assessment is needed ensure safety infrastructures. A non-destructive evaluation method was found in adoption ultrasonic monitoring. Thanks sensitivity ultrasound elastic properties, technique allows determine effectiveness and compare healing capacity between different mixtures. However, most studies concerning assessments evolution were conducted on mortars, lacking large aggregates. Therefore, upgrade commonly used construction material, concrete monitored, its performance compared mortar. Ultrasonic surface wave monitoring shows potential evaluate crack closure either mixture effect SAPs included.

Smart superabsorbent polymers for self-sealing and -healing of mortar
ID No: 54 Abstract: Concrete is an important building material, due to its ease to use and relatively low cost. However, the presence of cracks endangers the durability of concrete and can result in reinforcement corrosion since a pathway for harmful particles dissolved in fluids and gases is generated. Manual repair costs can go up to half of the annual construction budget. Instead, introducin...
متن کاملDesigning Repeatable Self-Healing into Cementitious Materials
Designing self-healing into cementitious materials can open a new world of opportunities for resilient concrete infrastructure under service loading conditions. The self-healing process should be robust as well as repeatable, allowing for self-repair after multiple damage events. The repeatability poses great challenges when self-healing strategies mainly rely on the formation of low-strength c...
متن کاملSelf-Healing in Cementitious Materials—A Review
Concrete is very sensitive to crack formation. As wide cracks endanger the durability, repair may be required. However, these repair works raise the life-cycle cost of concrete as they are labor intensive and because the structure becomes in disuse during repair. In 1994, C. Dry was the first who proposed the intentional introduction of self-healing properties in concrete. In the following year...

Recently, self-healing technologies have emerged as a promising approach to extend the service life of social infrastructure in the field of concrete construction. However, current evaluations of the self-healing technologies developed for cementitious materials are mostly limited to lab-scale experiments to inspect changes in surface crack width (by optical microscopy) and permeability. Furthe...
متن کاملPhysical Properties of Concrete Modified with Superabsorbent Polymers
This dissertation deals with the effect of a new concrete additive, called salt-insensitive superabsorbent polymer, on the physical properties of normal and high strength concrete. Superabsorbent polymers, short SAP, are special polymers that are able to absorb many times more water than their own weight within short time. They can even store water when exposed to gentle mechanical stress. When...
